- One Hundred Thousand Buddhas Confession is little known hidden treasure of terton Nyala Pema Dundul in countries of Europe, USA, Australia end elsewhere. Chogyal Namkhai Norbu is teaching important treasure of Nyala Pema Dundul : Union of Primordial Essences as part of international Dzogchen communities Collective practices.
I received lung/reading transmission of this hidden treasure from Chogyal Namkhai Norbu at Merigar/Italy in June 1989, later also detailed teachings and explanations of U.P.E. It makes me happy to see that Yeshe Jamtso Rinpoche from Yarchen gar in China published One hundred thousand Buddhas confession – hidden treasure of Nyala Pema Dundul. As Nyala Pema Dundul himself said : his teaching will first spread to China and then to other countries. Guru Padmasambhava is teaching about Ten enlightened activities: first of them is copying scriptures for free distribution .
In this sense we re-print Yeshe Jamtso Rinpoches explanation about importance of reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession. May you, the Reader, be inspired to read it aloud regularly. As it is said: »Discovered by Master Pema Dundul. This teaching is an effortless way. In one lifetime, your body of affliction will turn into light. These miraculous words were the spontaneous manifestation of master’s awareness. They are Dharmakaya relics of Master Pema Dundul.«

Treasury of lives gives us precious insights into His life and Liberation :
…« In 1872, the water-monkey year of the fifteenth sexagenary cycle, Pema Dudul set out for Katok Monastery. Along the way, he gave empowerments and teachings at Tsela Wangdo (tshe lha dbang mdo) and made an extensive feast offering at Nyinggyi Lung (snying gi lung).
On the new-moon day of the fourth month of the same year, at a place near Yetse Lha (ye tshe lha) or Sumdo (sum mdo), Pema Dudul gathered his disciples. He blessed them, performed prayers for them, and told them to return their respective dwellings, instructing them not to disturb him for a week. During that time, the sky was said to have been full of rainbows; tradition relates that when his disciples opened his small tent a week later, they found only his robes, mat, hair, and nails. Due to this he is said to have been the last among the one hundred thousand yogis of Katok who successfully attained the rainbow-body.
A gilded reliquary stupa was built by his disciples, headed by Lama Taye, at Kelzang Monastery. The stupa was filled with Pema Dudul’s scarce remains, his vajra, kīla, Padmasambhava relics and other sacred substances.
Pema Dudul’s most prominent disciples included Terton Sogyel Lerab Lingpa(gter ston bsod rgyal las rab gling pa, 1856-1926); Adzom Drukpa Drodul Pawo Dorje (a ‘dzom brug pa ‘gro ‘dul dpa’ bo rdo rje, 1842-1924); the Second Dzaka Choktrul, Kunzang Namgyel (dzaH ka mchog sprul 02 kun bzang rnam rgyal, d.u.); Gargyi Wangchuk (gar gyi dbang phyug, 1858-1930); Trulzhik Chomden Dorje (‘khrul zhig bcom ldan rdo rje, d.u.); Nyala Rangrik Dorje (nyag bla rang rig rdo rje, 1847-1903);
Ayu Khandro Dorje Peldron (a g.yu mkha’ ‘gro rdo rje dpal sgron, 1839-1953); Karma Tashi (karma bkra shis, d.u.); and Nyakla Yeshe Dorje (nyag bla ye shes rdo rje, d.u.), the author of his biography.«
Then, on the new moon day of Saga Dawa in the Male Water Monkey year (1872) of the fifteenth Rabjung, as he was nearing the end of life, in the region of Tromyul Nyin, he spoke thus to his disciples:
“Deluded activities springing from ambitions for this life; imitation virtuous actions of the eight worldly dharmas; meaningless chatter about “the view”; mistaken meditation; insane, disturbed behavior; sectarian discrimination; benefiting others for the sake of one’s own profit and fame–be rid of all of them. They will never be the cause of Buddhahood.
Crush the head of the eight worldly dharmas. Renounce the activities of this life. Don’t be proud and superior, practice the Secret Mantra in secret. Mix your mind-stream with compassion and the twofold benefit of self and other will be spontaneously accomplished- then this old man’s hopes will be fulfilled.
It is said that Padma Sambhava sleeps at the door of the faithful, and the same applies to me. Don’t err ! Don’t err ! Work hard! ” He concluded with a recitation of the verse which begins, “In all my rebirths may I be inseparable from the sublime lama…” and other prayers, and said, “Sew me inside my tent and for seven days no one is allowed to come.”
After seven days, the earth shook three times and the sky filled with rainbows and points of light. Cymbals crashed from above, delicious scents wafted from every direction, and many other wondrous signs appeared. When the disciples opened the door of the tent the Saint had disappeared, leaving only his hair, finger- and toenails, clothing and seat behind.
He had followed in the footsteps of the accomplished saints of the past in India and Tibet, and had manifested the fruit of the Secret Mantra Ancient Translation Teaching of the Clear Light Great Perfection: the rainbow body.
One hundred days later, he appeared clearly before his chief spiritual son, Rigbi Dorje (Rig-Ba’I rDo-rJe). Through the realization of a dakini symbol, the mind of lama and disciple merged into one, Rigbi Dorje’s realization became equal to the sky, and he worked limitlessly to benefit beings.
He continued the Dharma teaching of the precious Great Saint, and with the help of innumerable holy lamas erected a two-story reliquary stupa on the grounds of Kalsang Monastery. The hair, fingernails and clothing were sealed inside.

One Hundred Thousand Buddhas Confession
Secret teachings, the profound Dharma and self-liberation pervading space
A quick path to instantaneous complete enlightenment—-recitation of Buddha names to eliminate negative actions and obscurations.
For the benefit of sentient beings pervading space, I prostrate and take refuge in the oceanic assembly of Gurus who have nine lineages, four and six sections of tantra Mandala Deities, and dakinis of the Mother Tantra.

I prostrate and take refuge in Bhagavan, Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak- Sambodhi, Father, Mother, Son, and Family of the thousand Buddhas of the Bhadra-kalpa including Vipashyin Buddha, Shikhim Buddha, Vishvabhu Buddha, Krakucchanda Buddha, Kanakamuni Buddha, kashyapa Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha, etc.

(Reciting once, you will be definitely born in the Western Buddhafield, the Blissful from now to six hundred million or as many as the sandgrains of the Ganges incalculable kalpas.)

1.5 How supreme One Hundred Thousand Buddhas Confession is
One hundred thousand Buddhas confession—instantly attaining Buddhahood is a terma teaching discovered and transmitted by the great lineage holder Pema Dudul. It is a very important teaching in the Great Perfection. When Pema Dudul discovered this teaching, his motivation was to help all sentient beings in the world of the Five Turbidities, because in a world like this, the most helpful teaching is this one. Listening to it, hearing it and seeing it will liberate from the samsara. This teaching is supreme.
Nowadays, sublime beings of different schools in Tibet are all promoting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession. In Tibet, Han Region and western countries, people are reciting this teaching. This teaching has been translated into Chinese, English and many other languages so as to let more people realize its merit.
It is a very simple teaching. You may practice just by reciting it. It is not necessary to apply the three supreme methods: start with the thought of bodhicitta, do the practice itself without any conceptualization and dedicate the merit at the end. Just reciting is fine. One hundred thousand Buddhas confession is a very simple, very supreme and very complete teaching.
Reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession is very good for purification of negative actions. No matter they are vows of the Pratimoksa, vows of the shramanera, vows of the bhiksu or vows of Vajrayana, no matter which of these vows are contravened, reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession will cleanse obscurations and purify negative actions.
One hundred thousand Buddhas confession is a teaching of transference. All the negative actions we have done can be cleansed through reciting the teaching. Reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession once will accumulate as mush merit as meeting in person with thousands of Buddhas and be blessed to take rebirth in the western Buddhafield, the Blissful and Buddhafield of the Five Dhyani Buddhas. It should be recited daily without interruption. No matter it is animals, relatives, friends, vajra brothers or sisters and people we know or we don’t, at the moment of their passing away, reciting this teaching in their ears will be of great help. At present, the world is full of abortion. This is a very serious issue. Reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession once will not only perform transference to aborted babies, but also cleanse your own negative actions and obscurations. We should recite it persistently. This
teaching will greatly benefit all aspects. Purifying negative actions through reciting this teaching will automatically remove all kinds of obscurations for you. Especially when you ask for health, harmony in your family and success in your work, reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession will work well for you.
You should recite One hundred thousand Buddhas confession in places where there are many sentient beings. Even if you couldn’t finish the entire teaching, reciting one or two Buddha names from the teaching would eventually liberate sentient beings that have listened to it. Although they are not going to attain Buddhahood instantly, when the chances of affinity mature, they will attain Buddhahood in the future, or in their afterlives. You should all keep reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession everyday. People who don’t practice Buddhism could recite; people who don’t have trust in Buddhism could recite; people who don’t believe in samsara and the law of cause and effect could recite. Why? Because you will attain liberation through listening to this teaching. Reciting just once will be very beneficial.
When reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession in the mountains, the air you breathe out from your mouth will be carried by wind to sentient beings on whom seeds of liberation will be planted. This is a teaching of liberation. One hundred thousand Buddhas confession has the merit of liberating from listening.
Reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession in crowded places like a supermarket will liberate sentient beings from samsara through having them listen to the teaching. We should have One hundred thousand Buddhas confession tie Dharma affinity with more people. Once someone ties Dharma affinity with the teaching, he will certainly take a look. If he sees guru’s photo,he ties the Dharma affinity. If Om mani padme hum are seen by eyes, seed of liberation will be planted in one’s heart. If your family members are not willing to practice Buddhism, It will be great if you can try to get them reciting One hundred thousand Buddhas confession. Reciting once will plant a seed of liberation in their hearts. This is the biggest help and the real help to them. I want you to take this “job” as your responsibility. This is my teaching.
1.6 . Another teaching Rinpoche has been transmitting is called One Hundred Thousand Buddha Confession. Hearing this teaching will liberate one from samsara. Reciting it will cleanse obscurations, help one be reborn in the Pure Land of Amitabha Buddha, and liberate one from samsara. Everyone can recite the teaching no matter one has received the transmission or not. It will be of great help even without preliminary practice, dedication of merit or the three noble principals. This is a rare terma teaching discovered by the venerable master Pema Dundul for helping sentient beings in the world of Five Turbidities. Pema Dundul predicted that this teaching would first spread to Mainland China then to the whole world.
The Merits of the Recitation of Hundred Thousand Buddha names for Repentance Prayer

The prayer Recitation of Hundred Thousand Buddha names for Repentance was a terma revealed by Nyala Pema Dundul. At the time of revelation, Pema Dundul had the following aspiration: ‘The world now is a very tumultuous and impermanent world. Many people are severely afflicted by the five kleshas and are very biased against many things in life. As such, this terma will be a great help to this world.’ This terma was also concealed under the same aspiration of being able to help all the beings of the world in this era.
After the revelation of this terma, Buddhists and accomplished monks and masters from many countries have been using this terma as a means of benefitting beings, to help liberate the dead, for repentance, for taking rebirth in the pure lands. This is what this terma can do.
It will be very good if every one of you here can recite this daily without breaks. Non-Buddhists can recite this as well, and so can people without faith in the terma or Buddhism, as well as those who do not believe in karma or reincarnation. Why? It is because this terma has the property of being able to confer liberation upon hearing and reciting. Even hearing it once will confer benefits.
There will be times when you travel to cities with many people and will not be able to recite the whole terma completely. But even if you only recall a word or two, a buddha’s name or two from within the terma, and can recite it, any being who hears the recitation will be able to gain liberation in some way or another. This is due to the fact that, by doing this we have already planted a seed for Buddhahood in his heart. This being may not be able to attain Buddhahood immediately, but he eventually will – no matter how slowly he progresses towards this endpoint. This is the merit that this terma possesses.
In places with many beings – be it during animal liberation activities or in the supermarket, it will be a very good time to recite this terma! Be it during the wake of a family member, relative, friend or vajra brother after their death, reciting this terma in their ears just once will benefit them greatly in terms of taking rebirth in Sukhavati (pure land). The explanation of this merit has already been documented in the footnotes of this terma. Take a look and read it clearly. This is how superb this prayer is!

1.7. The Merits of the Recitation of Hundred Thousand Buddha names for Repentance Prayer《十萬名懺》之功德 (2)

Furthermore, we have a problem at hand which truly goes against the dharma teachings and that is the issue of fetal abortion. People who perform abortion or have abortions need to pray for repentance and purification using this prayer. The karmic obstacles from abortion will be cleansed through the reciting of this prayer. This is why it is a must to recite it. It will be good if we can recite it many times a day. Even when we are very busy and unable to spare much time, just a few seconds spent for one recitation will still be very good. I hope that everyone can do it.
This terma prayer is exceptionally good for clearing karmic obscurations. Why is this so? When Nyala Pema Dundul revealed all the termas on Dzogchen, he said this himself, ‘The dharma I have taught and revealed will be spread to the Chinese lands in sixty years’ time from now. From there, it will be further transmitted to countries overseas.’ Nyala Pema Dundul is a greatly accomplished Buddhist master in Tibet and he has predicted that the Dzogchen dharma from his lineage will spread through the world and be propagated in this manner. According to his predictions, we know that now is the time to practice this dharma. We have very good karmic connections with his dharma.
The fruit we achieve after practicing this dharma is that of liberation (from samsara). But take note that we should not practice this dharma with only the aspirations of the human and heavenly beings, which is useless, but with the great aspirations of bodhisattvas and that of wishing to take rebirth in Sukhavati. This is very important.
Also, our luck and blessings will be increased further after we have made repentance of our sins. Be it good fortune for the family in terms of money, increasing the children’s intelligence, for the good health of family members, this terma is beneficial in these ways when recited. Why? This is because, after the karmic obscurations get purified through the recitation of this prayer, the other matters in life will then achieve perfection. This is one of its merits as well.
Furthermore, when reciting this prayer on a mountain or highland, the wind and air breathed out from our mouths, carried far away to other places, will be able to plant a seed of liberation on any being it touches. This is a terma of liberation! This is liberation upon hearing! That is why reciting this prayer is good.
