Namo Amitabha, dear readers and friends of Buddha Dharma-OBF International , blessed Saga Dawa month where we celebrate Lord Shakyamuni Buddha*s enlightenmnet and mahaparinirvana . These special days are calculated in Buddhist calendar, found in the second part of this Teaching. May noble and meaningful prosper. ❁‿↗⁀◎⊙ღ๑۩۞۩๑ღ⊙◎‿↗⁀❁

Om Ah Hum Vajra Guru Pema Siddhi Hum
»Descend with the View, ascend with the conduct. It is most essential to practice these two as a unity .« Padmasambhava
1.1. How to unite the view and conduct ?
Guru Padmasambhava (ca. 717 – 762 in Tibet) gave this Dzogchen advice to his close student Yeshe Tshogyal , how to unite the view of voidness (skt. Shunyata) with the conduct on the path of Dharma. According to my twenty-five years of Atiyoga practice and my observations, this instruction of Padmasambhava is very much neglected and almost forgotten . It is hard to understand why contemporary Dzogchen teachers and masters never quote and teach about this advice of Padmasambhava. They praise and invoke Padmasambhava on every 10th lunar day , yet neglecting this advice about the conduct . Of course good Vajrayana practitionersx know and practice according to this advice .
In past twenty-eight years I attended numerous Dharma teachings and numerous retreats. It was astonishing to discovery when I read this advice of the Lotus-born Guru in the book translated by Erik Pema Kunzang (1990) . I took this advice to heart and truly appreciate this Dzogchen Dharma transmitted by Guru Padma.
1.2. Contemporary teachings about conduct on the Path of Dzogchen :
Chogyal Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche teachings are very popular due to open webcasts, attended by more than 3000 people worldwide. Rinpoche mostly shortly teach about conduct on the last day of retreats (giving advice for daily life and Dharma practice). When people hear from Rinpoche :
»In Dzogchen there are no rules…« they feel very comfortable. Beginners surely misuderstand this as : Do as you please ! Yet, when we carefully listen to his further explanations about being PRESENT and AWARE in daily life, we can never misunderstand his Dzogchen advice as »Do as you please .«It would be really benefitial for sentient beings if Rinpoche would clearly and often explain the advice of Lineage master Padmasambhava how to unite the view and conduct on the Dharma path of Dzogchen .
1.3. Guru Garab Dorje as emanation of Vajrasattva and of Buddha Shakyamuni .
1.4. Vajrasattva Buddha represents innate purity of our Buddha nature (skt. Tathagatagharba) . All confessions are practiced in the presence of Vajrasattva Buddha . Shakyamuni Buddha taught about vinaya, about Pancasila or ethical precepts . Yet, he did not teach us this to make us limited . The same as road signs for drivers, these are save guards for secure driving on the roads of samsara. Sailors have compass and other navigations to safely reach the other shore. Dharma is the path toward the »Other shore«. Sailors know a lot about different winds blowing on the wide ocean. These are karmic winds of good, bad or neutral karma causes , conditions and effects. Good or positive winds push us freely toward »other shore«, bad or negative / unvirtuous karmic winds push us back, obstruct us or cause that we meaninglessly wander around in samsara, attached to bad company of alcoholics, drug or sex addicts, as is so often the case with younger generations.

1.5. Unity of the view and conduct :
Guru Padmasambhava is further teaching : »Although our View is higher as the sky, our respect for the cause , conditions and effects of karma is more subtle as the grain of flour .«
Instead of applying the prajna or intelligence in a correct way, one starts to quote from Dharma books just to protect bad habits of drinking, smoking etc.. This is so often the case with alcoholics or marihuana smokers who become interested in Buddhism and Buddhist practice. It would truly benefit such practitioners if they hear clear Dharma advice : Stop drinking, stop smiking ! Stop your involvement with bad company ! Stop harming yourself (and others).
We can understand this psychologically, not like imposing rules of Buddhism. Most important is that we stop harming ourselves and others . The Buddha can only show you the Path, but you yourself must walk on it and apply the Dharma in your daily life. Nobody else can do this instead of you. Wake up !
I teach the Dharma in non-intellectual ways, from personal meditation and contemplation experiences, from the Dharma advices that I generously share with others (who need it) and according to the instructions of Ati yoga Dzogchen lineage masters .

1.6. Why did the Buddha teach about Mindfulness as being the foundation of the Path ?
Negative karma of body, speech and mind is done in unmindful state (Tib. Marigpa), in an ignorant or unaware state. Sama-sati or Right mindflness is part of Eightfold noble path. We can see how Shakyamuni Buddha is connected with Atiyoga Dzogchen path. Being present anad aware in daily life (advice of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu) means to be mindful. With mindfulness we are in calm state, like clear surface of an ocean which reflects Buddhas and Bodhisattvas being part of us.
When Dzongsa Khyentse Rinpoche was teaching Bodhisattvacaryavatara – Meditation in action (Ankaran sea side, March 1994) we could understood and had experiences about this stage of Shamatha or Shiney practice (clear ocean , where waves dissolve back into ocean). Waves are part of an ocean – as Chogyal Namkhai Norbu is teaching – movement is part of our energy. If our energy is disturbed, we move neurotically and with tensions. If our energy is harmonious, we move gracefully and spaciously like Daka or Dakini, floating like Sky-goers. From Vajrayana point of view : Dharma part means purification of our energy into Dhyani Buddhas . From Atiyoga Dzogchen understanding : Dharma path means the accomplishment of the Rainbow body .
1.7. My precious Palden Tsawai Lama Kyabje Thinley Norbu Rinpoche (1931-2011) wrote : »I will pray for your long life and actual wisdom Dakini qualities prospering for the benefit of all beings .«
I offer this Atiyoga Dzogchen discourse about conduct to the Lotus feet of Palden Tsawai lama, Guru Padma, Vimalamitra, Shri Singha, manjushrimitra, Guru Garab Dorje, Vajrasattva and Samantabhadra Buddha . May we abide forever with immeasurable Buddhas . Sarwa mangalam.
